Welcome and First Impressions
Recently, we had the pleasure of visiting The Oratory Prep School, and would like to extend our thanks to Andrew De Silva, Head, for such a generous and engaging tour. From the outset, the warmth of the welcome and the clarity of the school’s values were immediately apparent.

Setting and School Community
Set within 65 acres of Oxfordshire countryside, between Goring and Woodcote, The Oratory Prep School educates children aged 2–13, offering both day and boarding options. Importantly, the school fosters a nurturing, close-knit community where children are known as individuals and encouraged to grow in confidence.
Facilities at The Oratory Prep School
Across the campus, facilities are exceptional and thoughtfully designed to support both learning and wellbeing. These include a 25-metre indoor swimming pool, a 300-seat theatre, and an outstanding Forest School programme. Together, these spaces provide a stimulating environment in which pupils can thrive academically, creatively, and socially.
Co-Curricular Life and Character Development
Alongside academic life, the co-curricular programme at The Oratory Prep School is both broad and purposeful. In particular, initiatives such as Minnie Vinnie’s, where pupils organise fundraising projects and support those in need, help to develop empathy and social responsibility. Similarly, The Pit encourages pupils to tackle challenging problems, building resilience, curiosity, and deeper thinking skills.
In addition, pupils can choose from over 50 clubs and activities each term, all led by a dedicated and committed staff team. As a result, children are given regular opportunities to explore new interests and develop confidence beyond the classroom.
Boarding Life at the Prep School
Boarding is an integral part of school life and is underpinned by strong pastoral care. As a result, pupils are supported in a warm, secure environment where they are known and valued as individuals.
This approach has been formally recognised. In 2025, The Oratory Prep School was named Muddy Stilettos Winner for Best Learning Support and was also Highly Commended for Brilliant Boarding. Together, these awards reflect the school’s inclusive ethos and the care taken to support every child.

Final Reflections
My visit left a very positive impression. The Oratory Prep School offers a thoughtful balance of tradition, innovation, and genuine warmth. It is a school where children are encouraged to flourish academically, socially, and personally, within a caring and supportive environment.
