Sevenoaks School

Sevenoaks School: ambition, independence and a truly international outlook

3 July 2026

Our Visit to Sevenoaks School

We were delighted to visit Sevenoaks School recently, a leading co-educational day and boarding school in Kent for pupils aged 11 to 18.

Founded in 1432, Sevenoaks has an extraordinary history, but this is certainly not a school resting on its past. What struck us most was the sense of energy, purpose and ambition across the school. It feels outward-looking, intellectually curious and very confident in what it stands for.

Sevenoaks School in Kent

Set in the heart of Sevenoaks, the school has a wonderful position, with over 100 acres of space and a campus that manages to feel both connected and spacious. There is a lovely balance here: historic buildings, excellent modern facilities and a busy, purposeful atmosphere.

It does not feel like a school trying to follow a trend. Sevenoaks has a clear identity and knows exactly what it is about.

An IB school with a global outlook

Sevenoaks is particularly well known for the International Bacclaureate, and its long-standing commitment to the IB gives the school a very distinctive academic identity. For pupils who enjoy breadth, challenge and independent thinking, it offers a serious and stimulating alternative to a more traditional A level route. Families considering this route may also find our related guide helpful.

This is a school that suits bright, curious pupils who are ready to think widely, work independently and engage with the world beyond their own immediate surroundings.

Boarding, breadth and opportunity at Sevenoaks

We also enjoyed hearing more about boarding, sport, service, the arts and the many opportunities pupils have to explore their interests beyond the classroom. There is a strong sense that pupils are encouraged to get involved, try things properly and make the most of the breadth on offer.

For the right child, Sevenoaks offers academic stretch, independence, global perspective and a huge amount of opportunity. Further information is available on the official school website.

A really valuable visit, and a school we were very pleased to get to know better.
