Recently, we had a super visit to all-girls day and boarding school Queenswood School, set in 120 acres near Hatfield in Hertfordshire. It has a reputation for its academics, sporting excellence and a strong art, drama and dance department.
450 girls aged 11-18 attend Queenswood with around 220 of those boarding. It is a hugely popular school boosted by its location as only three miles from the M25 and 20 minutes on the train to central London. The school has a fleet of dedicated drivers and vehicles which provide door-to-door pick up and drop off around the home counties and north and Central London. In addition, transport is also provided to Heathrow airport at the beginning and end of each term for international students.
Excellent academics
Queenswood are experts in teaching girls, and this is reflected in the excellent academic results with students achieving well above average grades for GCSE and A Level. Languages are particularly strong here with French, Spanish and Japanese offered at A Level and around two thirds of girls study two languages for GCSE. The Bellman Sixth Form Centre which is one of the best we have seen, is stylishly decorated with self-contained work stations, break-out office rooms, study booths and a super coffee shop.
Strong in sports and the arts
Queenswood is so much more than just academics, offering a wealth of co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities. Sport is outstanding here with a huge range of sports on offer including some you don’t often see such as fencing and polo. It is also the Number 1 girls tennis school in the country. Drama and dance are hugely popular with over 8 productions a year as well as GCSE and A Level work, inter-house competitions and dance extravaganza.
