Mock Exams Coming up?  How to revise over the Christmas Holidays.

10 December 2024

Are mock exams coming up in January?  Here are our top tips on balancing revision with enjoying your Christmas holidays.

Balance is Key
Rest is just as important as revision. It’s essential to take a well-deserved break and spend quality time with friends and family this season. The next six months will be full of studying, so don’t burn out too early.

Create a realistic revision timetable
Plan your revision around days when you know you’ll be busy or unavailable. A clear timetable will help you stay on track, knowing exactly what needs to be done each day, so you can simply focus on getting it done.

Try Power Hours
Power hours are an effective way to revise:

  1.  Pick a past paper question from your subject.
  2. Spend 20 minutes revising the key information needed to answer the question.
  3. Set a timer for 20 minutes to answer the question.
  4. Mark your answer using the exam board’s mark scheme. This helps you understand how to think like an examiner and what they expect.

This technique is great because it lets you focus on a specific topic and repeat it three times in one session—maximizing retention in a short amount of time.

Eliminate Distractions
Put your phone away, turn off email and social media notifications (especially if you’re using a laptop or PC), and let your family know when you’ll be studying so they can avoid interrupting you.

Take Regular Breaks
Spacing out your revision with regular breaks helps keep your mind fresh and motivated. Make sure to schedule time off to recharge.

It’s Okay to Ask for Help
If your child is struggling with a particular subject or topic, don’t hesitate to ask for help. We can connect you with the right tutor to support your child’s needs.

Wishing you a very happy Christmas and successful revision!
