As two mother’s whose children have all attended boarding Prep schools due to living overseas, we fully understand what parents are looking for when sending their children to a boarding school for the first time and at such a young age. We recently visited Prep School Port Regis School near Shaftsbury in Dorset, and, visiting this wonderful stand-alone Prep school, it is not hard to see why this is a popular choice with so many families that I work with.
Pre-prep and Prep boarding school for ages 2-13
Port Regis is a co-educational nursery, pre-prep and prep boarding school for ages 2-13. Boarding is at the heart of the school with each boarding house having a wonderful cosy home-from-home environment run by a team of superb houseparents’, house mothers and gappies. Boarding is fun here and most pupils will opt to try boarding at some point with almost 100% opting to board in their final year.
First class academics and sport
Academics are first class; small class sizes and many teachers are specialists in their field offering excellent preparation for admission to leading senior schools across the UK. Outstanding facilities with a mix of contemporary and traditional buildings all set in a beautiful campus. The school is passionate about sport with children having the opportunity to take part in sport every day from hockey, rugby, netball, gymnastics, swimming, football, cross country, cricket, athletics and tennis and even yoga. Matches are played weekly against other schools.
Vast & varied range of extracurricular activities
Extracurricular is huge here with a choice of over 70 activities on offer from bee keeping to jewellery making. As well as focusing on academics during Saturday morning school, ‘PR Plus’ is the Saturday Enrichment Programme where children have a fantastic range of opportunities from film making, managing one’s finances, how to do your washing, how to make an apple crumble and so much more.
