Thank you to King Edward’s Witley
A big thank you to King Edward’s Witley for hosting us at last week’s BBSN Networking Day. The campus looked beautiful in the spring sunshine. We also enjoyed a fascinating tour led by a Lower Sixth pupil — a fantastic representative of the school.
About King Edward’s Witley
King Edward’s Witley is a lively, forward-thinking co-educational school for pupils aged 11 to 18. Founded in 1553, it’s one of the oldest schools in the UK. Today, it has nearly 500 students. Around 25% are boarders. Of these, half come from overseas, representing about 20 different countries.
The school is easy to reach. London is under an hour away by train. Guildford is just 15 minutes by rail. Both Heathrow and Gatwick airports are less than an hour’s drive, making it ideal for international families.
Academically, the school offers a wide choice. These include GCSEs, A Levels and BTECs. There’s also a bespoke one-year Pre-A Level Course — an intensive IGCSE programme mainly designed for international students. It provides excellent preparation for Sixth Form study.
Set within 100 acres of parkland in Surrey, the school offers outstanding facilities. Sport and music are both key strengths. In fact, music plays a central role in school life.
Moreover, King Edward’s provides strong university guidance. Sixth Form students benefit from a dedicated counselling programme. This includes a tailored Early Applications Programme for those applying to Oxbridge, medicine, dentistry, or veterinary courses. Each year, around 70% of pupils go on to Russell Group universities.
Pastoral care is also a priority. There are eight supportive and sociable houses. Pupils in Years 7 and 8 start in Queen Mary House. From Year 9, they join one of the senior houses — home to both day and boarding students. In Year 13, students move to Jubilee House. This helps prepare them for university and life beyond school.
